Milestones Ministry as Coaching

How is Milestones Ministry Related to Coaching?

Building relationships is at the heart of Milestones Ministry.

Recognizing or celebrating a milestone in our lives, that either brings us joy or sadness, provides an opportunity for us to gather with family and friends of all ages to listen and show care for one another. The first principle of faith formation at Milestones Ministry is, “Faith is formed by the Holy Spirit through personal, trusted relationships.” Relationships! That is what life is all about. Where would we be without them?

Through the coaching lens, recognizing milestones goes beyond recognizing an event in our lives as simply a time to be together. It gives us time to set aside our busy lives and strengthen our relationships with one another through deeply listening and listening well. Each milestone moment in our lives provides an opportunity for parents and their children and people of all ages to listen well to one another in a trusting, caring, nonjudgmental setting. Listening, really listening is powerful. That is coaching!

There is an old American proverb, “Don’t judge someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes.” When you listen actively to others, it can be amazing what you learn.

What has happened in the person’s life that they arrived at this milestone?

How can they be supported at this time in their life?

What milestones might they dream about?

What do you want to learn about someone?

What do want someone to know about you?

When we set aside judging a person and purely listen, relationships grow. We all thirst to have someone listen. When someone has really listened to you, how does that make you feel?

What more could we want in our lives than to invite the Holy Spirit into our relationships through personal, trusted relationships? It is through our trusted relationships that we know of God’s love.
